Samuel Choi pursues a multifaceted music career as a teacher, chamber musician, adjudicator, soloist and an arts administrator. In 2019, Choi was appointed as the Artistic Director of the OYMI Music Festival where he has invited numerous renowned artists all over the world and recruited talented students to participate in the festival. He is also the founder and the Artistic Director of the OYMCO, a chamber string youth orchestra, based in Toronto. As a soloist, Samuel has appeared with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, PRISMA Festival Orchestra, Chinese Arts Society of Toronto Orchestra, A.Y. Jackson Symphony and Chamber Orchestra where he performed the concertos of Bartok, Walton, Mozart and Bach. Samuel was the Grand Prize Winner of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, runner up of the PRISMA Festival Concerto Competition, 1st prize winner of the Glenn Gould School Chamber Music Competition, 1st Prize winner of the Felix Galimir Chamber Music Award Competition and many other awards and scholarships. As a soloist and chamber musician, Choi has performed in the presence of Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau and the Dalai Lama

A passionate believer in music education and outreach, Samuel dedicates much of his time and energy teaching. He is currently coaching a string quartet of young, promising musicians. As a musician that has so much experience teaching, he understands how difficult it is learning violin and viola and hopes to instill in his students that at the end of the day, music is something to enjoy playing and sharing with others – not just something you need to be perfect at.
