Christopher Josin Chan completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Toronto studying under Shauna Rolston Shaw and Joseph Johnson with a full-tuition scholarship. Christopher has won numerous competitions such as Candian Music Competition, University of Toronto's Felix Galimir Chamber Music Award, University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and was awarded the gold medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Throughout his university studies, Christopher was selected to participate in masterclasses with Lawrence Lesser, St. Lawrence String Quartet, the Rolston String Quartet, among others. He has given recitals at the Glenn Gould Studio, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and has been a soloist with the Canadian Sinfonietta and University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Christopher has attended various international summer music festivals including Orford Musique Festival, Le Domaine Forget Music Festival and Tuckamore Festival studying under world renowned professors and cellists such as Richard Aaron, Johannes Moser, Philippe Muller, Michel Strauss and many more. He is an alumnus of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, a former principal cellist of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and is a substitute cellist for the Canadian Sinfonietta. Christopher plays on a David Wiebe cello, generously loaned by Shauna Rolston Shaw.
